On Saturday June 22, 2013 at Dillard University I attended the first annual Throwback Classic! The Throwback classic is a charity basketball game that was organized by former New Orleans Hornets point guard Squeaky Johnson and artist Y. Luck of The Rap Pack. The classic consisted of some of the most talented alumni that I have ever seen in my life! A total of three games were played; Warren Easton vs. McDonough 35, John F. Kennedy vs. Abramson, and finally… the big showdown! It was hosted by Q93’s Wild Wayne, Stephen Sutton, and Rude Jude. Sounds were provided by Definition DJ Red as Partners N Crime and 5th Ward Weebie rocked the mic during the intermission. If you were not present you missed a heap of excitement and you should most definitely be in attendance next year!

Here is a video clip of me talking smack before the game. I was on my way to support the home team; John F. Kennedy Cougars. @squeaky_johnson @glynnthabarber Kennedy about to shut shut it down. Tell this tarpon to get the hell up outta my video… Fortier didn’t make the cut!! @ladies_love_4 #kmsl #kennedy #cougars #alumni #basketball #fantasy_5 #celebrityscope #dontjudgeme

John F. Kennedy Players==> Jermaine Domino, Lance Domino, Cardell “Squeaky” Johnson, Devin Landy, Terell Hunter, Damon Barnet, Thadius Johnson, Glynn Clements, Lance Perique, Wilfred Antoine, Dwayne Mitchell, Kobe, and Cliff Warren Easton players===> Anthony Barnes, Jerry Jackson, Josh Bellaire, Kyndall Dykes,  Warren Mathews,  Blake McCallum, Lorenzo Burks,  Jamaal Leary, Joey Stevenson,  Robert Gould , Kenneth Mathis

Easton beat 35 and Kennedy beat Abramson. The two champions battled for the win, the all-tournament team, and the most valuable player trophy.  During the fourth quarter both teams went in for the kill. There were fouls, floor sliding, and lots of air gliding.  Warren Easton came out on top. The final score was 59-61.  The all-tournament team players were, Glynn Clements, Kyndall Dykes (also MVP),

I caught up with MVP Kyndall Dykes (Easton Alumni) to grab his B- ball skills timeline. He scored a total of 27 points during the game against McDonough 35 and 21points during the championship game against John F. Kennedy. Although I am a John F. Kennedy alumni, I must agree with him… he “Balled out.” Here is what he had to say.

Q: Fantasy:  Where did you grown up? How old were you when you began playing basketball? What year did you graduate from Warren Easton? Did you and your teammates win any championships or trophies during that year?

A: Kendall Dykes:

I grew up in New Orleans. I lived in the Downtown area of the 7th ward on St.Anthony and N. Villere St.

I started playing ball when I was 7years old.

I graduate in 2005.

I won the district championship in 2004 and 2005 with two of my teammates. Those two particular teammates (Josh Bellaire & Warren Matthews) also played in the Throwback Classic.

Q: Fantasy: How did you hear about the throwback classic? When did you decide to be a part of it? During your high school years… what do you remember about the Warren Easton vs. Kennedy games? How did it feel to meet up with some of your former teammates and opponents?

A: Kendall Dykes:

I heard about it from Bird Antoine and Ryan Brock.

I decided to be a part of it AS SOON AS I HEARD about it. I got to show love to the city and to Squeaky Johnson.

I played against Kennedy in 2003 and it was a very packed game. Both games, the game in 2003 and the throwback classic, were very good and very packed games.

It felt good to play with my teammates, to show love to our old school Easton, and it was good to play against those guys (Kennedy). They were good competition.

Q: Fantasy: Your team walked away with the victory and you the MVP trophy. How does it feel?

A: Kendall Dykes:

It felt good to win the championship and to play well enough to get MVP.  My teammates allowed me to ball out and get that award.

Q: Fantasy: Are you currently a professional basketball player? If so, what team do you play for? Will you attend the throwback classic next year… even if you do not decide to play?

A: Kendall Dykes:

Yeah, I played last season in Ukraine and previous (3 seasons in Romania)

YES! I will attend it next yr. 4sure.
