Hard Work Pays Off
“Straight Outta Compton” star, 28 year old New Orleans native Jason Mitchell (@jasonmitchellactor ) who plays the role of the late Great N. W. A. rap legend Eazy- E ( Eric Wright, ) is making waves in the media and abroad. According to the Huff Post the rising star talked about his Journey from the drug scene in the city of New Orleans to the star- studded, paved streets of Hollywood. Some time during his career Jason took a few acting classes and landed an agent after just five weeks of studying.
Jason was a struggling New Orleans actor with little experience prior to being cast for Straight Outta Compton (Ice Cube–produced N.W.A biopic). He almost missed his golden opportunity because $1500 wasn’t within his grasp during the time he received a callback from Director F. Gary Gray and was asked to fly out to LA. Because Jason was so talented and actor Mark Wahlberg had put in a good word for him, he was granted the opportunity to audition via Skype for F. Gary Gray which resulted in him landing the starring role in the Straight Outta Compton biopic.
Straight Outta Compton… then and Now
Prior to and after nailing the audition, the actor constantly studied video footage of Eazy- E (Eric Wright) and listened to his music until he got the legends‘ speech and distinct style down to a science. Although, playing the role of Eazy-E marks the young actor’s biggest part to date, this might just be the beginning of a long and successful acting career. Preparing for the role of Eazy, we can only begin to imagine, was lots of work. The young actor stayed in character for six weeks prior to filming. In order to master the inflection of Eazy- E‘s voice, Jason Mitchell worked closely with rapper William “WC” Calhoun and was also taken under Eric Wright Jr., (Lil Eazy-E ‘s ) wing and embraced by receiving unwavering support. He also looked the part by spending three hours daily in makeup and wearing a Jheri-curl wig which was an exact replica of Eazy’s greasy do.
To be honest, acting was something where I got a chance to be somebody else and forget about the situation I was in,” he says. “I got caught up in the drug scene like a lot of my friends. We were making mistakes.
However, he’s not completely new to the scene. the Straight Outta Compton star, Jason Mitchell landed small roles in 2012’s “Contraband” and 2013’s “Broken City prior to his big break.” We Celebrity Scope are super proud of Jason Mitchell and wish him nothing, but the best! ♡♡♡ In the words of former N.W.A. member, legendary hit maker and rap mogul Dr. Dre,
